Tried and tested over the last.. ahem.. 40 years?!

I have been a fake tan user for many years. It released me from so much agony,  trying to at least go beige on holiday! My skin type does not tan and maybe it’s just as well, I haven’t got terrible sun damage (apart from my neck) more of that in a later post. Fake tan products have improved immensely in the last few years. St Tropez were the first to have a green undertone which stopped the orange colour which we all hated, but, for me Vita Liberata are the clear winners in the best fake tan category.  I still use St Tropez everyday tan which is very moisturising and gives a lovely glow.

Ok, this is how I do it:

If you are going on holiday, a special occasion, or just want a tan, do it the night before. If you can sleep with it on, it really does seem to last longer. I have a special pair of dark pyjamas to wear to protect my bedding. Vita Liberata is the best brand for not feeling sticky.

Don’t shave your legs or anywhere else the day of your fake tan, do it a couple of days before.

Shower with a skin exfoilater or the nylon scratchy gloves from Boots, paying special attention to your elbows and knees.

Apply moisturiser on your elbows, knees, feet, and your hands and the inside of your wrists.

Don’t use deodrant, it will make the tan go a weird colour!

Always use a mitt to apply, I start with my feet and work upwards. I have to get someone to help me do my back, I just can’t reach!

I exfoliate my face before applying, as any painter will tell you it’s all about the preparation!

Shower in the morning which will remove the guide colour and you’re good to go!

What are your favourite fake tan products? Have you had any tan disasters?? Let me know in the comments!
