Refresh on a budget!
Although we love our Orangerie and use it daily, it was time for a refresh. I wanted to create a more casual garden room rather than the sitting room feel it had before. I also wanted a bit more drama. I haven’t quite got the hang of ‘before’ pictures yet – I get too excited when I want to change something!! But the pictures below give you an idea of what the room looked like pre-refresh.
So I spotted this advert in an interiors magazine and I knew this would be PERFECT for my room! Thankfully, I didn’t need to replace the roof lantern and windows, just paint the wood frames black!
So we arranged the brilliant LT Property Services to paint the lantern (see the indoor scaffold set up below!) and the window frames by Country Boys Decorating. It was a bigger job than we anticipated – isn’t it always? The walls were painted All White by Farrow and Ball and the window frames in black chalkboard paint from Johnstones.
So after the decorating, I wanted to refresh the furnishings without spending a fortune. Enter IKEA.
I’ve had my eye on the Farlow range from Ikea for a while – so comfortable, contemporary without being too modern and so reasonably priced, as you’d expect from our favourite Swedish retailer. The only limitation is the colour options so I went for white…what?!!! you may be asking!! Look, I will spray it with protector, the covers are machine washable and replacement covers don’t cost a fortune in case of disaster.
The little armchair is old but the cushion (£80) is current from Oka, it’s gorgeous and cost more than the lamp (£65) from Wayfair. The zebra footstool was so tatty, I wish I had taken a before picture!! But with a quick upcycle using a £30 faux fur from Ikea, it’s transformed and I love it! My friend helped me do it.. it was made trickier by a bit missing from my staple gun!
My old log baskets started to look out of place, so Ikea came up trumps again! I’ve used their wire coffee tables to store the wood.
I think that’s it! I’m so pleased with the results, especially because I didn’t have to spend a fortune. What do you think? Are you an Ikea fan? What’s your favourite bargain purchase or upcycle project? Let me know in the comments!
